My Drawing
The idea came to me prior to coming to UNSW. I was walking around to check out where my classes were and realised that this place has some really good sites to draw. And so i took a picture and sat down started. I was really intimate about this piece it shows the strong presence that a building can have compared to its surroundings. The architectural design for the John Clancy auditorium is really unique as i have never seen a design with that unique type of shape before. This piece is drawn from charcoal with some water colour. i thought i would ad some water colour to emphasis the presence of the building and make it stand out as if it were to leep off the page!
The coliseum
This was literally one of the first photographs that i saw when i was younger and ever since i have been intrigued as to how the Romans got their idea to draw up a design such as the coliseum. But if i told u that then i would be telling you half the story. I am not a pure architect as i do engineering as well and i would be lying if i had told you that the way they built this structure didn't intrigue me as well. Considering the Romans back in those times did not have cranes or any machinery to say that least, the way they built it with the primitive yet effective shovels and picks still amazes me as other people im sure. So this was the first image that got me interested in not only architecture but also engineering as well.
My Dream
Imagine the presence and 100,000 dedicated fans screaming out barcelona barcelona, barcelona! Imagine the joy and excitement that a ball touching the back of the net can bring to people screming and cheering for their team. Now imagine the anguish and sadness that is caused by the barcelonean keeper missing the ball which results in a loss of 1-0. All these emotions and a whole lot more cause by a single event in a stadium. Now thats a building that i would like to design, knowing all these emotions can be created from it. However on a quiet saturday morning when there isnt a game on, the presence of the stadium is quiet calming and peaceful as well. Hundreds of fans coming in just to view the magnificence of the whole stadium and the way it was designed. Now thats a design that i would be happy to be build any day.
